چکیده
This study is o n 2 groups o f leprosy pa t ients using the M i tsuda lepromin test . The first group of 37 pat ients received O · I m l of both human ( Lepromin -H) and Armad i l lo lepromin ( Lepromin-A) i n concentrat ions of 40 m i l l i on baci l l i per m l . The average readings for Lepromin-A and -H were 4 · 7 mm and 2 · I m m respect ively . Using Nested analys is of variance, t h e Lepromin-A readi ngs were found stat ist ica l ly s igni ficant ly ( 2 · 2 t imes) h igher than the Lepromin-H readings. The second group of 60 patients received 40 M baci l l i per m l of Lepromin-A and 1 00 M baci l l i per m l of LeprominH . The average readi ngs for Lepromin-A and H were 6 ·9 mm and 6·3 mm respect ively . This study suggests that with the paucity i n supply of Lepromin -H , Lepromin-A can be used as a good subst i tute i n concentrat ions of 4 0 M baci l l i per m l i n comparison w i t h t h e Lepromin-H using 1 00 M baci l l i per m l .

Comparison in leprosy patients of Fernandex and Mitsuda reactions using human and armadillo antigens. A double-blind study.
The Mitsuda and Fernandez reactions to bacilli prepared from lesions of human patients and bacilli from infected armadillos were studied in 112 leprosy patients. It was observed that there is no substantial difference when armadillo lepromin is used instead of human lepromin except that a larger induration occurs with the use of the armadillo lepromin in a majority of cases. The number of those...
متن کاملComparison of reactions to human and armadillo lepromins in leprosy.
To assess the usefulness of Mycobacterium leprae-infected armadillo tissue as a substitute for human lepromas for the manufacture of lepromin, we compared skin reactions to preparations from these two sources in 115 leprosy patients. The patient sample represented all the primary clinical forms of leprosy. Lepromin derived from the armadillo (lepromin-A) provoked the same pattern of responses a...
متن کاملMitsuda reaction in armadillos Dasypus novemcinctus using human and armadillo derived antigens
The armadillo has been an important experimental model for leprosy, besides it is still an important resource for bacilli. Despite the innumerous studies about armadillos of the Genus Dasypus, little is known about the real susceptibility of this species to the Hansen’s bacillus after experimental infection with M. leprae. Many authors have reported that 80% of the inoculated animal will develo...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Reversal reaction and Mitsuda conversion in polar lepromatous leprosy: a case report
A 22-year-old male polar lepromatous leprosy patient who became Mitsuda positive after 36 months of multidrug therapy (MDT) is reported. Lepromatous leprosy (LL) is a state of specific immunosuppression and is invariably irreversible. The finding of Mitsuda positivity in histopathologically proven polar lepromatous leprosy is extremely uncommon, and conversion of lepromin status following MDT h...
متن کاملPositive Mitsuda lepromin reactions in long-term treated lepromatous leprosy.
Twenty-four lepromatous (LL) patients, treated for 22 to 40 years with chemotherapy, including sulphones and with multidrug therapy, were tested with standard Wade-Mitsuda lepromin. Thirteen gave weak positive (3-4 mm) Mitsuda reactions, confirmed histologically in the ten whose reactions were biopsied. Six of the eleven negative reactors were partly accounted for by a history of relapse, and t...
